A helicopter pilot who died last week while fighting a wildfire in the Northwest Territories is remembered as “a beacon of light” to all who knew him.
The accident happened on June 28, 2024 at the Fort Good Hope Airport.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) deployed a team of investigators to the incident, which involved a Bell Textron Inc. B212 helicopter.
According to the TSB, the pilot was with Great Slave Helicopters (GSH).
On social media, GSH identified the pilot as Tom Frith.
“It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the loss of one of our own,” said GSH.
The company said that Frith passed away while battling wildfire near Fort Good Hope— “a testament to his unwavering courage and dedication.”
“As we navigate this time of sorrow, let us hold on to the memories of Tom – his smile, laughter, the love, and the countless ways he made our lives better,” said the company.
“His legacy will live on in his beautiful young family and the hearts of all who knew him.”
Frith leaves behind a wife, children, his parents, brother and extended family and friends in Yellowknife and Australia.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May you find solace in the love and strength Tom shared with us all.”
The TSB will be gathering information about the incident.
