BC Highway Patrol seek witnesses after driver pulls U-turn on Hwy 1 near Hope

A driver who drove into oncoming traffic on Highway 1 near Hope is facing charges related to dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and driving while prohibited.

The incident happened on Dec. 17 while a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer tried to stop a white pickup truck for a speeding violation.

However, the truck did not stop and used an emergency U-turn lane to drive into oncoming traffic, said the BCHP in a news release.

A 36-year-old man from Surrey is facing charges and is due in court on Mar. 4.

“Drivers on Highway #1 did all the right things after a pickup truck crossed onto the wrong side of the highway when police tried to pull it over near Hope, BC,” the BCHP said.

“Now, police are looking for more witnesses to further the investigation.”

Anyone who happened to see this incident, or captured the incident on their dash camera, is urged to contact the Hope BCHP at (250) 869-7750.
