A lively candidate debate took place at the Coastal Capri Hotel in Kelowna on Saturday morning and is continuing throughout the day.
Six candidates are currently running for the position of B.C.'s next Liberal Party leader.
At 10:30 a.m. on December 2nd, the BC Liberal leader hopefuls took the stage in front of a packed house of more than 150 members.
Tensions arose at different times throughout the debate, which had the crowd cheering, booing and at times, laughing uncomfortably.
The Liberal leader candidates include Todd Stone (MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson), Mike de Jong (MLA for Abbotsford West), Michael Lee (MLA for Vancouver-Langara), Sam Sullivan (MLA for Vancouver-False Creek), Andrew Wilkinson (MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena) and Dianne Watts (former Conservative MP).
Candidates discussed topics such as transportation, lack of housing and the overdose crisis, to name a few.
The position was left vacant when former BC Premier, Christy Clark, resigned from her post in August 2017.
The candidates are part-way through their campaign, visiting six different locations in B.C. including, Surrey, Prince George, Nanaimo, Kelowna and Vancouver and the BC Liberals Indigenous Network will also be hosting an event.
Card-holding members of the B.C. Liberal Party will begin the voting process on February 1st, 2018 and the results will be announced after the vote closes on February 3rd in Vancouver.
