(Update: April 25, 2025): BC Prosecution Services has approved a charge of second degree murder against 32-year-old Tyson Young in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Skidegate on April 22, 2025.
(Update: April 25, 2025): Police have confirmed that a suspicious death in the BC village of Skidegate is being investigated as a homicide.
A 32-year old Skidegate man has been arrested in connection with a suspicious death investigation.
On April 22, 2025 at 1:17 pm, the Daajing Giids RCMP received a report of a pedestrian-involved collision in the 200 block of Front Street in Skidegate. A vehicle reportedly struck the pedestrian who later died from his injuries.
“From the outset of this collision this was investigated as a targeted attack, and at no time did the Daajing Giids RCMP feel there was a risk to the greater community or its members,” said Daajing Giids RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Chris Manseau.
The Daajing Giids RCMP was also made aware of several social media posts questioning the investigation’s timeline.
Sgt. Manseau said that “all investigators are working diligently, round the clock over the past few days, gathering all available evidence and speaking to witnesses."
"While an arrest is certainly a milestone in any investigation, charge approval is always the ultimate goal. It’s important that we take the time we need to ensure a successful prosecution," Manseau said.
North District Major Crime maintains conduct of the investigation and the Daajing Giids RCMP "are making extra patrols to speak with community members and alleviate fears."
Anyone with any information, including CCTV or dash camera video, who has yet to speak with police is asked to contact the Daajing Giids RCMP at 250-559-4421.
