(UPDATE: Sept. 18 at 1:18 pm): There is no risk of a tsunami in BC, according to the US's National Tsunami Warning Center.
The agency's assessment has been reposted by BC's emergency information service.
The Americans said parts of Alaska, including the Aleutian Islands, are under a tsunami advisory.
But it added: "For other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America, there is no tsunami threat."

(Original story: Sept. 18 at 12:56 pm): Officials in British Columbia are assessing the risk of a tsunami after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia earlier today.
The Province’s emergency information feed said the quake hit 255 miles southwest of Bering Island in the Pacific Ocean.
