Ken and Michele Babich were at home when their lives changed.
The retirees simply couldn’t believe their eyes when they revealed what was hidden beneath their $10 In the Money Multiplier scratch and win ticket.
They had won the game’s top prize of $1 million.
It was Michele who scratched the fateful ticket in their Mill Bay home, taking her disbelief to the BCLC Lotto! app to confirm she wasn’t imagining things.
She then showed Ken who thought the 50x multiplier was simply telling them they had won $50, but he eventually realized it signified the seven-figure win.
“One reason we like to play and what we appreciate about the lottery is all the different ways that the community benefits from the money generated from lotteries,” Ken explained.
And they plan to put their newly-acquired money where their mouths are, as Michele said the prize will “help us give back more to the causes we are passionate about.”
Their Mill Bay community stands to benefit and so do they, with Michele saying “it will help with our quality of life.”
The couple didn’t say exactly what they had planned for the money, but already had an upcoming cruise book and will now treat that as a celebratory trip.
According to the BCLC, the winning scratcher was purchased from the Thrifty Foods on Mill Bay Road in Mill Bay.
