BC girl, 4, drowns at public aquatic centre

A tragic incident unfolded at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre on Monday night.

Around 8 pm, emergency crews were called to the facility’s aquatic centre for reports of a drowning incident at the water park.

While there are multiple pools inside, the RCMP says the drowning happened in a pond that wraps around the building.

The victim was a four-year-old girl, who was pulled from the water by her family members.

According to police, bystanders immediately initiated CPR and emergency personnel took over life-saving efforts when they arrived.

The young girl was rushed to hospital, where she sadly passed away.

RCMP Victim Services has been engaged to support the girl’s family at this time.

Police expressed their deepest condolences to family and friends of the child and extended gratitude to the bystanders and first responders that made every effort to save her life.
