A nice relaxing afternoon hike turned into a nightmare for two men in the Lower Mainland late last week.
After hiking to Steelhead Falls north of Mission on Friday afternoon, they arrived back at the trailhead parking lot around 5 pm.
One of the men went to use the bathroom while the other returned to his Jeep, where he was met with a frightening surprise.
According to police, two unknown men wearing balaclavas emerged from a white pickup truck that was parked behind the hiker’s Jeep.
They allegedly pointed a handgun owner at the hiker and demanded he turn over the keys to his vehicle.
“One of the offenders drove off in the Jeep, while the other departed in the white pickup,” noted a Mission RCMP release.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the carjacking, which remains under investigation by police.
The stolen Jeep is a 2024 model, white in colour and stock in appearance. The white truck used by the suspects was a four-door pickup, slightly lifted, with no front plate.
The RCMP is urging anyone who was in that hiking area on the afternoon of Friday, April 4, with information about either vehicle to contact the Mission detachment at 604-826-7161.
