BC man attacked by black bear while out for a run

Conservation officers responded to the Squamish area after a bear attack on Monday night.

According to the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS), a man was out for a run when the incident happened around 7 pm.

He was jogging along a trail off the Spit Road area when he came across two bear cubs, and the sow was unfortunately close by.

“The sow charged towards him and swiped his arm and leg,” explained a BCCOS debrief, adding that the man suffered minor injuries.

Conservation officers have installed signage in the area and taped it off to keep the public away.

“To ensure public safety, the BCCOS asks the public to avoid the Squamish Wildlife Management Area trails until further notice,” the debrief noted.

Following the Monday night incident, conservation officers remain in the area this morning.
