A tractor driver involved in multiple collisions and ultimately a rollover on Highway 1 in the Lower Mainland last year is facing three criminal charges.
The rollover happened on Nov. 25 during a protest in Surrey.
The RCMP received reports of the John Deere tractor driving on Hwy 1.
The driver was stopped and told he could not be driving on the highway, however, about two hours later they spotted the same tractor still driving on the highway through Langley.
When police attempted to pull the tractor over, it did not stop and allegedly caused multiple collisions with a BC Highway Patrol vehicle before it flipped on its side.
The driver of the tractor was seriously injured and a police officer received minor injuries.
“BC Highway Patrol supports lawful protest, but it’s our job to keep roads safe and enforce traffic laws and that’s what we must do,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
“The injuries and property damage that came from this situation could have been avoided by simply following a police warning.”
A video of the rollover and arrest were captured by a driver and shared on social media
