When Gordon McIvor found himself ahead of schedule for a doctor’s appointment, he decided to drop into a nearby drug store to buy some mints.
He also purchased a Set for Life scratch and win ticket, which produced a free play to earn him another shot with a new ticket.
The second time was a charm, as the Chilliwack resident, now at his doctor’s office, scored the game’s top prize of $675,000 from the free play ticket.
“I decided to take the free play ticket to the doctor’s office and scratched it there,” McIvor explained. “Everyone in the doctor’s office knew I won, and they were all looking at me, so it was kind of funny.”
He says he remained stoic in victory, however, which had others at the clinic asking how he was able to stay so calm.
Once he finished up his appointment, McIvor went straight to a car dealership because he and his wife had been discussing the purchase of a new vehicle.
“I called her from the dealership saying we can get a new one and told her about the win,” he recalled. “She thought I was full of it.”
Along with a new car, McIvor is also thinking about using the prize money to upgrade his RV.
Not all of the money will be used on himself though, as he wants to help his daughter with a down payment on a home.
The winning Set for Life ticket was purchased and validated at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Vedder Road in Chilliwack.
