Darryl Woods says his body was “vibrating” for hours when he discovered that he had matched six of six numbers from the Lotto 6/49 draw on April 23.
It’s an understandable reaction after winning a $5-million jackpot, something that the Prince George resident calls “life-changing!”
“I thought, ‘this can’t be real,’” Woods recalled of his initial reaction after scanning his ticket through the BCLC app. “I had to check it three times to make sure and once I realized the amount, I couldn’t stop vibrating until that afternoon!”
He was most excited to tell one of his brothers about his windfall, so much so that he went to his house and woke him up at 7 am.
Woods says his brother was "a bit dazed at first, but was really excited for me once I showed him I won."
But other than immediate family, no one knew about his major win until April 29 when he called a few friends during his drive to BCLC’s Kamloops office to claim the prize.
Woods has a few thoughts about what to do with the money, including the purchase of a classic car or truck, but he’s most looking forward to gifting a large portion of the prize to his siblings and kids.
“I’m most happy about giving the money to my kids,” he noted.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Shah Brothers Convenience Store on Westwood Drive in Prince George.
