A BC nurse has had their registration suspended for one year for reportedly having a “personal and sexual” relationship with a patient.
The BC College of Nurses and Midwives posted a consent agreement with the unnamed nurse last week.
The agreement says the nurse is unidentified in accordance with a section of the Health Professions Act, which does not name nurses when a condition is a factor in their conduct.
According to the agreement the nurse documented that they were suffering from a health condition at the time of the relationship, which happened between July and September 2023.
“The BCCNM Boundaries in the Nurse-Client Relationship standard clearly prohibits personal and intimate relationships between nurses and their clients, irrespective of whether the relationship is consensual,” said a summary of the agreement.
“A breach of these professional boundaries can harm both the client and the nurse-client relationship.”
In addition to one-year registration suspension, the nurse voluntarily agreed to a six-month prohibition on working in community nursing.
If the nurse returns to community nursing, they will be required to be followed by a counsellor for one year.
An inquiry committee found the terms of the consent agreement will address the professional and practice issues.
