A pair of Vancouver-based pals are each walking away with $500,000 after winning big in the Lotto 6/49 draw on Dec. 11.
Wai Hing Yuen and Tang Mei Deng have been playing the lottery together for the last year and were thrilled to discover that they’d be sharing a life-changing win.
Using numbers they selected themselves, the friends won a $1-million prize from last week’s draw.
“We checked the ticket on a self-checker at Tsawwassen Mills,” recalled Yuen of the moment he realized they won the lottery. “I didn’t believe it and thought, ‘this is a lot of zeros.’ I made Tang Mei check it too!”
While Deng was most excited to share the news with her daughter, Yuen told the BCLC that he had yet to tell anyone about the win when the pair recently claimed their prize.
He has thought about what he’s going to do with the winnings, however, as Yuen is planning on taking a trip to Hong Kong.
Deng will also be heading on vacation, but she’s planning to hit the open seas and go on a cruise with friends.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Champlain Square lotto kiosk in Vancouver.
