British Columbia’s new Home Owner Grant has been set at $2.125 million for 2023 and will continue to cover 92% of residential properties across the province.
The basic grant amounts will remain the same as 2022, says the Ministry of Finance in a news release issued Tuesday.
Homeowners in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley and Capital Regional districts could receive as much as $570.
Those who are 65 or older, veterans, have a disability or live with a relative with a disability could receive as much as $845.
Homeowners in northern or rural areas can apply for as much as $770. Those who are 65 or older, veterans and people with disabilities could receive as much as $1,045.
Last year, the program provided relief to almost half a million seniors and about 13,000 people with a disability.
People are reminded to apply for the grant in May, after they have received both their BC Assessment notice and their municipal or rural property tax notice.
BC homeowners may also be eligible for BC’s Property Tax Deferment program. It is a low-interest program for homeowners who meet criteria, including:
supporting a dependent child (Families with Children Program)
55 or older during the current year
a surviving spouse of any age
a person with disabilities
The province’s 2023 property assessments were made available on Tuesday.
