Minimum wage workers across British Columbia will see a slight bump on their paycheques in June.
On Sunday, June 1, the province’s general minimum wage will increase by 2.6% from $17.40 to $17.85 an hour.
According to the Province, the same 2.6% increase will also apply to minimum-wage rates for resident caretakers, live-in home-support workers, live-in camp leaders and app-based delivery and ride-hail service workers.
The minimum agricultural piece rates for hand harvesters, however, will not increase by 2.6% until Dec. 31, 2025.
The Province says this is to ensure crop producers don’t need to adjust wagers in the middle of harvesting season.
“Government has made regular, gradual increases to the minimum wage to provide certainty for workers and predictability for businesses,” a Ministry of Labour release explains.
“This is the fourth year of the government's ongoing commitment to tie annual minimum-wage increases to inflation.”
According to labour-force data from Statistics Canada, around 130,000 employees in BC earned minimum wage or less in 2024.
