A BC semi-truck driver has been handed a handful of tickets and had their licence for the truck removed after allegedly being caught driving while impaired.
The semi-truck was stopped by BC Highway Patrol officers for driving 17 kilometres over the speed limit on Highway 1 in Chilliwack at about 1 am on July 26.
“There are thousands of professional truck drivers working hard and following the rules every day,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
“But we are constantly looking for the lawbreakers, and this truck driver showed signs of impairment and failed an Approved Screening Device.”
Both the tractor and trailer failed roadside safety inspections, which resulted in the driver’s licence being removed until the vehicle was fixed.
The driver was handed a fine of $138 for speeding and a $368 fine for not having his speed limiter not set, which is a requirement for heavy commercial vehicles.
The 34-year-old Mission man was given an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days and had his truck impounded for 30 days.
The heavy duty tow was at his expense, a news release said.
The BC Highway Patrol service reminds all drivers, whether they are visitors or residents of BC, that the Summer Impaired Driving campaign continues until the end of the month.
Officers will be patrolling busy roads and enforcing safe driving practices and laws in an effort to encourage all motorists to take driving sober more seriously.
