A Lower Mainland woman had to get creative to fend off a bear attack on Tuesday.
The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) says she was walking home in Anmore, a village north of Port Moody, shortly before noon when the black bear appeared.
A post from the BCCOS explains that the animal came around the corner of the woman’s house and advanced towards her.
Attempts to scare the unwanted intruder away were unsuccessful and the bear eventually got close enough to bite her.
Seemingly out of options, the woman ended up grabbing a nearby garden hose and sprayed the bear, which gave her time to escape the attack.
Conservation officers who responded to the attack site a short time later were unable to locate the bear, but they placed a trap in the area.
The woman, meanwhile, received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.
The BCCOS continues to investigate the incident.
