Baby dies after being left in hot car for several hours in BC

As the weather starts to get hotter, there are plenty of reminders about not leaving your dog inside a parked car.

It goes without saying that the same rule applies to leaving a child in the same situation, but a couple from Burnaby seem to have missed the memo.

RCMP were called to the couple’s vehicle on Kingsway Avenue around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday where they found their 16-month-old infant unconscious.

Police learned that the child had been left unaccompanied in the car for a number of hours.

It was rushed to hospital, but did not survive.

“We understand that there are going to be many questions around this incident, however we would ask that the public understand we are still in the early stages of our investigation,” says Chief Superintendent Deanne Burleigh from the Burnaby RCMP.

“We are still interviewing witnesses and are not at a point where any further information can be released.”

The baby’s father was found at the scene and both parents are cooperating with the investigation.

At this time, there have been no arrests made in relation to the incident.

Thursday's hot weather broke multiple temperature records across the Lower Mainland.
