On Wednesday, Mounties in Prince George responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a local residence.
It ended up being the “largest drug seizure in Prince George history,” the RCMP says.
Officers were investigating the break-and-enter at the residence in the 4400 block of 5th Avenue when they spotted a large number of counterfeit cigarettes.
As a result, a search warrant was obtained, which police say led to the discovery of a “significant number of illicit drugs” inside the home.
According to the RCMP, nearly 40 kilograms of illicit drugs were seized, including suspected fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.
Officers also seized over 11 kg of cannabis, 11 kg of an apparent cutting agent, around 120,000 counterfeit cigarettes and more than $500,000 in cash.
“It is obvious we can no longer ignore the effects of the BC gang conflict in Prince George,” said Insp. Darin Rappel. “This is a clear indication that more than our local drug traffickers are using Prince George as a base of operations.”
Rappel said the RCMP will be increasing enforcement efforts in the area due to these recent developments.
Police credited the person who reported the initial break-and-enter to the RCMP, as it allowed for the discovery of the counterfeit cigarettes and the resulting historic drug seizure.
