Earlier this week, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced that Save On Foods would be joining the provincial Buy BC campaign.
British Columbians will now see banners, stickers and shelf displays in stores throughout the province that will make it easier to find locally grown food.
“When consumers buy locally grown, raised, harvested and processed food and beverages, they are supporting the farmers, fishers and producers that live in their own communities and helping to strengthen our provincial food system and economy,” said Lana Popham, minister of agriculture and food.
In addition to the partnership with Save On Foods, Buy BC has partnered with BC Tree Fruits to supply promotional materials for their products.
Warren Sarafinchan, president and CEO of BC Tree Fruits Cooperative, said he was excited to partner with the province on the annual event to support fruit growers across the southern Interior.
“We are honoured to work alongside other BC-based food and beverage companies to promote the Buy BC program, and through it, showcase delicious fruit from our growers,” said Sarafinchan.
The provincial government says the Buy BC logo is meant to make it easier for people to identify BC food and support local businesses.
Through the program, the province provides more than $2 million a year in cost-shared support to producers and processors for marketing materials to help promote their products.
