A cougar attack at the always-busy Cultus Lake Provincial Park forced the closure of a campground last week.
A notice posted in the park on Friday said that a cougar attacked and killed a pet in Clear Creek Campground around 11 pm Thursday. The site was evacuated on Friday.
Clear Creek Campground is located on the east side of Cultus Lake and, like most sites in the provincial park just outside of Chilliwack, is heavily populated during the summer months.
BC Parks and the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) were working closely together to resolve the issue and inform campers of any developments late last week.
Those staying in the area were urged to not leave children or animals unattended.
The campground reportedly reopened to the public on Sunday and the advisory regarding the animal and closure was removed from the BC Parks website.
NowMedia has reached out to the BCCOS to learn whether conservation officers were able to locate the cougar over the weekend.
