As of Aug. 30, Canada Post is offering free mail forwarding services for up to 12 months for residents impacted by the wildfires in BC.
Wildfire-affected residents with postal codes V0E, V0K, V0N, V1P, VIV, V1W, V1X, V1Y, V1Z, V4T and V4V who have relocated to a community centre, shelter, hotel or motel can register for the service until Sept. 29.
“Mail forwarding is an important service not just for ongoing mail, but it also provides a vital link with government and relief agencies going forward,” explains a spokesperson for Canada Post.
“If you receive regular cheques through the mail, it’s important you register.”
By registering, Canada Post will be able to ship mail to a different address selected by the customer, and this can be done on a short-term or long-term basis, even if the address is temporary.
Residents can register at canadapost.ca/mailforwarding using a credit card to authenticate identity or by going to a post office with a government-issued photo ID.
Mail forwarding services exclude parcel deliveries, but customers can use Canada Post’s free FlexDelivery service, which allows parcels to be delivered directly to a post office of choice.
If an eligible resident purchased the mail forwarding service prior to Aug. 30, they can call customer service to request a refund.
