Crews working to secure derailed train cars along Fraser River

Efforts are underway to further secure several derailed grain cars from a Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) train that was travelling along the Fraser River near Boston Bar on Sunday.

According to a spill incident report with information from the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR), the incident occurred on Dec. 22, and reports indicate no leaks or dangerous goods were spilled.

One rail car floated approximately two kilometres down the river before coming to rest on the river's bank. Two other cars are in the river at the derailment site.

The incident report did not state the cause of the derailment, but drone footage of the area appears to show the train track having been washed out.

“All rail cars are reported to be stable,” stated the incident report.

“Response crews have been deployed and are on scene working to further secure the cars.”
