Elderly BC woman sexually assaulted by stranger in her own home

Police on Vancouver Island are investigating a troubling sexual assault case.

An elderly woman in Cobble Hill called 911 shortly after 9 pm Tuesday to report that she had been sexually assaulted by a stranger who had broken into her home.

Officers rushed to the scene, along with the RCMP police dog unit, but they were unable to locate the suspect.

“Investigators were able to seize exhibits, which will be subject to forensic analysis,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé.

Police provided the following description of the suspect:

  • Caucasian man
  • Medium build
  • Between 18-32 years old
  • 5’10 to 6’1 tall
  • Wearing a dark bicycle helmet
  • Light coloured T-shirt
  • Had a face covering

The RCMP said at this time there are no known connections to any other sexual assaults reported.

“The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information or who may possess video surveillance in the area to come forward,” Bérubé added.

Police said the woman is being supported by Victim Services and urged anyone with information to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-1549.
