A man charged in connection to a 2022 prison break in the Lower Mainland was arrested in Spain, police say.
On Saturday, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) and the RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region (FPPR) announced that 49-year-old John Potvin had been arrested.
Potvin is charged with conspiracy to commit prison breach and prison breach for his alleged role in helping murder suspect Rabih Alkhalil escape the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam in July 2022.
Earlier this month, the CFSEU-BC and FPPR announced that three men, including Potvin, had been charged for helping Alkhalil escape.
Two others have been arrested and charged but Potvin was placed on a Canada-wide warrant.
Since his arrest on Sept. 19, the RCMP have been working with Interpol and other international partners to get Potvin back to Canada.
Alkhalil remains at large.
