Nearly 3,000 people have donated to a fundraiser created to assist the young family of a man who was murdered outside a downtown Vancouver Starbucks last weekend.
Paul Stanley Schmidt, 37, was stabbed to death while stopped for drinks with his fiancée Ashley and three-year-old daughter on Sunday evening.
It’s alleged that the altercation between Schmidt and 32-year-old Inderdeep Singh Gosal started when Schmidt asked Gosal to stop vaping around his toddler’s stroller.
Gosal was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder. He will appear in court on April 11.
The GoFundMe to support Schmidt’s family was created on Tuesday by the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society of Vancouver.
It has raised more than $165,000 in that time through those nearly-3,000 donations.
“Thank you all so much for the outpouring of love and support,” said an update from the Society. “Ashley and the family are extremely grateful and touched. She has informed me that most of the funds will be for daughter in trust.”
The goal is for the GoFundMe to raise $200,000 for Ashley and the couple’s toddler and it looks to be well on its way to that mark.
