GoFundMe campaign supporting Kelowna family of 12-year-old girl 'battling for life' in hospital

A 12-year-old girl is in hospital following an ATV accident that put her into a coma and has caused her brain to critically swell, according to a GoFundMe set up to assist her family.

The GoFundMe started by Abby Kimmel's aunt, explains that on June 29, her "bright-eyed" and "energetic" niece was severely injured in an accident after falling from a side-by-side ATV and being pinned by the machine.

As a result of the weight on young Abby, she was unable to breathe for a prolonged period of time.

She was emergency flown from the location of the accident in Fort St. John to Vancouver while she was in a coma.

Now, she is "battling for life" in hospital with the main concern being critical swelling of her brain, the GoFundMe says.

"Abby has seven siblings and her parents who need support while they stay at her side, away from their home in Kelowna BC," the GoFundMe reads.

"Her adoring father is the sole provider of the family. He remains at the hospital, unable to work; hoping and praying for a miracle."

So far, the GoFundMe has gathered nearly $13,000 in two days.

On top of monetary donations, the GoFundMe asks visitors to the page to hold the family up in their prayers.
