The province and ICBC are exploring opportunities to include more specialty licence plates and want the public’s feedback.
Currently, the speciality licence plate program is limited, which include the Veterans commemorative plate and the BC Parks plates.
Those plates feature unique graphics and images that represent each cause.
Money from the annual fee paid for the one of three BC Parks licence plates helps maintain provincial parks.
That program was launched in 2017 and has seen over 200,000 plates sold.
Now, the possibility of expanding the program to include non-profit organizations and charities is being explored with proceeds from those speciality plate purchase going back towards the organization.
“Both ICBC and government regularly get requests from people asking whether there are licence plate options beyond what we currently offer,” said David Wong, president and CEO of ICBC.
