Eiko Yamase usually likes to take it easy at home and watch Netflix or YouTube when she has some free time.
Recently, the Richmond resident’s evening was anything but relaxing, however, as she found out she had won a $1-million Maxmillions prize from the June 18 Lotto Max draw.
“I didn’t know what to do,” Yamase recalled. “I couldn’t believe it at first…for the whole day I had to make sure my ticket had matched the number.”
Eventually, she gathered her thoughts and called the BCLC to confirm that the winning numbers she was seeing on her phone screen were correct.
Once the life-changing win was confirmed, she called her husband to tell him about their good fortune.
“He couldn’t believe it,” Yamase said. “He was excited and congratulated me.”
The Richmond mother plans to put some of the money towards her children’s education, but she also wants to knock an important trip off her bucket list.
“It has been my dream since coming to Canada to visit out east,” she said. “I would love the opportunity to travel to Toronto, Halifax or even PEI.”
Yamase isn’t a consistent lottery player, but loves to play when the jackpots are higher like they were in June.
With Lotto Max offering up four record-breaking draws during that month, Yamase jumped at the opportunity to buy a ticket and it changed her life forever.
