The RCMP say they are still investigating the death of Madison Scott, who disappeared from Hogsback Lake 13 years ago.
Around 12 years to the day after she disappeared, and hours after police renewed their appeal for information regarding her disappearance, her body was found on a rural property on the east side of Vanderhoof.
Madison, who was 20 at the time, was at Hogsback Lake celebrating a friend’s birthday. She disappeared at some point between 3 am and 8:30 am on Saturday, May 28, 2011. Foul play has not been ruled out and the case remains unsolved.
The case has been led by the BC RCMP Major Crime Section Special Projects Unit in support of the Vanderhoof RCMP.
Investigators are once again renewing their call for information that will enable them to get justice for Madison.
“Investigators appreciate the public’s interest in the case and hope to provide further details in the future, however, no further information can be released at this time in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation,” the RCMP have said.
Madison’s family describes her as a “vibrant, free-spirited, loyal and kind” person who immersed herself in family, friends, hockey, softball and photography.
The Scott family continues to offer a $100,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and laying of charge(s) of the individual(s) responsible for Madison’s disappearance.
This past April was Madison’s birthday. She would have been 33-years-old. Her family shared a message on the Justice for Maddy Facebook page.
The Scotts had organized a successful annual event, the Find Maddy Poker Ride, on May 27, 2023. Around 24 hours afterward they received the call about the discovery of Maddy’s remains.
“While finding Maddy has yielded some relief, it has since generated many other questions that remain unsolved,” her family said. “It is challenging to comprehend the varying emotions that we experienced at that time. Once again, the community was there to stabilize our family as we processed the unexpected information.”
After the discovery, the community came together to hold a candlelight vigil for Maddy.
The family decided not to do the Poker Ride event in 2024, but hope to do something in the future once they find closure.
“We are forever grateful for the ongoing love and support we have had over the last 13 years. We are unwavering in our belief that justice will be obtained.”
The RCMP and Scott family are again asking for the public’s help in solving Madison’s disappearance.
