Fraser Valley residents Richard Courteen-Nurse and David Fisher are colleagues turned friends, and they enjoy playing the lottery together.
That enjoyment turned to ecstasy a few days ago as the pair won a whopping $1-million from the Lotto 6/49 draw on June 14.
Courteen-Nurse, a Harrison Mills resident, was the one who discovered the duo’s win by checking the BCLC Lotto! app.
“When I first saw the numbers, I said [a combination of expletives],” he explained, with his excited verbiage clearly too much for the BCLC to include in its media release.
For Fisher, who lives in Mission, it was quite the wake-up call, as he recalls that he “was getting into a deep sleep” when Courteen-Nurse called him with the life-changing news.
He said it’s “just perfect for the start of [his] retirement” and is already planning a vacation to Mexico with the money.
Courteen-Nurse, on the other hand, will use his winnings towards the purchase of a new home.
“It really takes the edge off,” Courteen-Nurse explained of how it feels to win such a significant amount of money.
The winning ticket was purchased at the London Drugs on London Avenue in Mission.
