A kitten that was found badly injured on the Sunshine Coast will soon be up for adoption following losing his eye in a dog attack.
The 10-week-old kitten has been given a very fitting name, Mike Wazowski, by the BC SPCA.
Mike was initially brought to a veterinary clinic on the Sunshine Coast and surrendered by the owner, who could not afford the cost to treat the kitten’s injuries.
“The veterinary clinic contacted us to see if we could take the kitten into our care,” says Marika Donnelly, manager of the BC SPCA’s Sunshine Coast community animal centre. “We agreed to cover all of the costs to treat this little one.”
According to the animal welfare organization, the veterinarian believes the kitten was most likely grabbed and shaken by the dog, causing its eye to come out of its socket.
“The damage was so severe it was not repairable,” says Donnelly. “The eye had to be surgically removed.”
Thankfully, there was no other physical damage, except for some facial swelling and bruising.
“Mike is the sweetest kitten,” Donnelly adds. “Even though he has been through so much, he’s friendly and social, just like any other kitten. He has the loudest purr and loves to spend time with the staff and volunteers at the centre.”
The BC SPCA estimates that Mike will be available for adoption in about three weeks, and will hopefully soon get to find his furever home.
