The Mackenzie Pulp Mill Corporation plead guilty to depositing a harmful substance into water that was frequented by fish.

The money will be directed to the federal Environmental Damages Fund which will go to support the conservation of fish and fish habitats in the Omineca region.

The offence relates to incidents in July 2014 and September 2016, when liquid waste coming from the mill was found harmful to fish.

Through the investigation lead by Environment and Climate Change Canada, it was found that the mill’s treatment system had not properly treated the water before discharging it due to improper management.

Due to their actions, the Mackenzie Pulp Mill Corporation will be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry.
