Man arrested after allegedly pointing laser at military plane in BC

Mounties on Vancouver Island arrested a man last week after a concerning incident around the 19 Wing Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) base in Comox.

Around 9:45 pm on April 23, police were alerted that the man allegedly pointed a laser at a military aircraft.

The aircraft the man is said to have targeted was a fixed-wing Kingfisher, the RCMP explained.

With the CAF base providing assistance and information, officers located the 38-year-old suspect who was promptly arrested without incident.

He was then released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

“Investigators continue to gather evidence and a detailed report to Crown Counsel will be forwarded with consideration of appropriate charges,” an RCMP release noted.

Since the probe is ongoing, no further details about the incident will be released by police at this time.
