A 32-year-old man was arrested and is being held in custody following a troubling incident in Vancouver late last week.
On Thursday, April 10, Vancouver Police (VPD) officers were called to an assault in progress outside Granville Square.
Officers rushed to the scene near Granville and West Cordova streets where a 62-year-old security guard had reportedly encountered the suspect around 10:30 am.
Police have learned that there was a brief interaction between the two parties that led into an altercation.
According to the VPD, the security guard was allegedly assaulted and had his fingertip bitten off by the suspect during the “violent confrontation.”
The security guard was transported to hospital by ambulance, while the suspect was tracked down and arrested by VPD officers nearby.
He has since been identified as 32-year-old Derek Driscoll, who has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and is being held in custody until a court appearance on Wednesday.
