Charges have been laid following a concerning incident on the west side of Vancouver.
According to police, a mother was walking her 17-month-old baby in a stroller near West Broadway and Blenheim streets around 10:30 am Tuesday when a stranger grabbed her phone.
“When she held on to the phone, the man allegedly threatened her with a knife and attempted to push the stroller over,” a Vancouver Police (VPD) release explained.
“The mother was able to stop the stroller from falling, but the suspect got away with her phone.”
Fortunately, witnesses in the area heard the mother yelling for help and they jumped into action trying to chase the suspect down.
They provided a description of the man to police and officers were able to locate and arrest him within minutes.
Ibrahim Omar, 37, has been charged with robbery and uttering threats in connection to the incident. He’s being held in custody as he waits on a bail hearing.
