Mom’s Lambo impounded after young BC man caught excessively speeding on Hwy 3

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says a young Lower Mainland man had some explaining to do to mom after an expensive traffic stop several weeks ago.

On June 1, the 26-year-old from North Vancouver was reportedly clocked by a BCHP officer going 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Hwy 3 south of Princeton.

He was driving a grey Lamborghini Gallardo and the officer learned that it belonged to the man's mother.

Unfortunately for the driver, and his mom, any speeding violation over 40 km/h above the limit comes with an automatic vehicle impound.

“The driver said he was on his way to a racetrack,” Cpl. Michael McLaughlin explained through a media release. “Had he driven more responsibly, he could have had a great day at the track. Instead, he had an awkward conversation with mom.”

Along with the vehicle tow and impound, which both come at a significant cost, the driver also received a $368 ticket for the speed and $109 ticket for a licence plate violation.

According to the BCHP, the man will also face three years of high-risk driver premiums for licensing and insurance as well, likely bringing the total cost of the traffic stop to more than $2,500.

“Our first priority is to keep you and all road users safe,” added McLaughlin. “If that is not enough to slow you down, you may wish to consider whether you’re willing to light thousands of dollars of your own money on fire.”
