Five stolen animals recovered by police officers in British Columbia have made the long journey home to their families in Saskatchewan.
They’re home safe because of the instincts of a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer who ran the plates of a driver who was giving him “strange looks,” according to a news release.
The BCHP says it all went down on the Malahat Highway (Hwy 1) near Goldstream Park around 2 pm on May 24.
Upon checking the vehicle’s Ontario plates, the patrolling officer learned the man was wanted Canada-wide for an arrest warrant originating out of Saskatchewan.
During an ensuing traffic stop, the 36-year-old Ontario man was arrested, and the BCHP contacted the Saskatchewan RCMP regarding the warrant.
The BCHP learned the warrant was for theft of five animals, who matched the description of the two dogs and three cats found inside the blue sedan.
The animals were transferred into the protective custody of local animal control and “released without charges after promising to be good boys and girls,” the BCHP release noted.
They’ve now all been reunited with their rightful owners in Saskatchewan.
