The Othello Tunnels in Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park have reopened after being closed for several days.
Authorities shut down access to the park last weekend after a 19-year-old man fell into the Coquihalla River near the tunnels.
While the popular tourist attraction is once again open to the public, searchers have still not located the teenager who is presumed to have drowned.
According to police, the RCMP Underwater Team conducted searches in the river on Wednesday where the young man was believed to have entered, but they were unsuccessful.
Hope Search and Rescue continued those efforts with shoreline searches on Thursday alongside unmanned aerial vehicle sweeps of the river.
Unfortunately, the man has still not been found.
“The pools of water where the man was last seen were thoroughly searched in hopes of locating him and providing a level of closure to his family,” says S/Sgt. Mike Sargent. “While he has not yet been found, search efforts remain active and ongoing.”
Search and rescue efforts will resume on Saturday and some public access to the Othello Tunnels may be restricted as that happens.
The RCMP urges members of the public to respect all restricted areas and avoid interfering with search operations.
