People urged to check smoke detectors after group of 7 doesn’t notice house fire

A fire department in BC is urging people to make sure they have working smoke detectors after a house full of people didn’t notice a fire.

Vancouver Fire Rescue responded to an incident today on 46th Ave.

Luckily, the house fire was extinguished and there were no injuries, but the people inside the home had no idea that it had started.

The department said that the seven people inside were unaware of the fire when firefighters broke open the front door.

The fire had started in the attic space, but there were no smoke detectors to alarm them.

Vancouver Fire said that it was an accidental fire caused by electrical wiring.

“An urgent reminder of the importance of working smoke alarms,” the department urged.
