We have our first look at renderings of the new PNE Amphitheatre that will transform the outdoor concert experience in Vancouver’s Hastings Park.
The future state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheatre will have a capacity for 10,000 guests and its defining feature is undoubtedly the massive free-span timber roof that would be one of the largest such structures in the world.
Once completed, it will provide a much-needed mixed-use venue space for top-tier concerts, arts and culture programming, as well as community events and more.
“The crown jewel of the PNE and Hastings Park, the new PNE Amphitheatre will enable us to showcase and celebrate BC’s talent, diversity, and enthusiasm for live events,” said Shelley Frost, president and CEO of the PNE.
It would be a stunning setting with panoramic views of the North Shore mountains for a projected 75+ performances per year.
While the roof is a magnificent sight to behold, it would also provide covered seating for rainy Vancouver, a practical upgrade over the current open-air amphitheatre that is over half a century old.
Designed by Vancouver-based Revery Architecture, the new amphitheatre would also come with several features to make the venue a much better spot to catch a show.
That includes hospitality suites, a banquet and lounge space, common areas and amenities like accessible washroom facilities, merchandise sales, food and beverage concessions, digital signage and seamless Wi-Fi.
“The PNE Amphitheatre is an important economic and cultural stimulus project that meets the identified critical void of a lack of performance space in Vancouver,” explained Coun. Sarah Kirby-Yung, who is also on the PNE-Hastings Park Board of Directors.
With the design now unveiled, the PNE is searching for potential partners for signature partnerships to be a part of the redevelopment, specifically when it comes to naming rights.
The request for proposals has been issued and the hope is that construction begins in 2024, with the opening date currently tabbed for 2026.
