Police have confirmed that a 28-year-old woman who was reported in February was found dead in the Fraser River this summer.
The family of Navdeep Kaur reported her missing to the Surrey RCMP on Feb. 23, 2024, and evidence led investigators to believe she may have been a victim of criminality.
Exactly five months later, on July 23, 2024, Richmond Mounties were informed of possible human remains in the Fraser River at Williams Road.
“Richmond RCMP worked closely with BC Coroners Service to identify the remains and determine circumstances that led to their death,” explains a release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
Now, just over four months after the discovery of her body, investigators are publicly identifying the remains as Kaur in hopes of advancing the probe into her death.
According to IHIT, investigators have pursued a number of leads in an effort to determine the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s death.
“This is a tragic event and investigators continue to work on this very active investigation,” said Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT.
“We are releasing an update with the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact IHIT immediately by phoning the information line at 1-877-551-4448 or emailing [email protected].
