An eight month long investigation by the Richmond RCMP Organized Crime Unit has resulted in charges being laid against six people.
The investigation into the alleged clandestine labs began in March 2020.
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada approved charges for Huang-Wei Anthony Hsu, Chanel Hsu, Kim World Huang, Yung En Grace Yang, Zekun Cao, Lui Yuan Song.
Between one and 15 offences were approved for charges including the production of controlled substances, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking or possession of both restricted and non-restricted firearms.
During the investigation, members of Richmond RCMP OCU seized:
approximately 28 kg of methamphetamine, 8.5 kg of fentanyl, 2.5 kg of fentanyl/heroin mix, 1 kg MDMA, 10 kg of illicit cannabis, 58 kg of ephedrine
Five carbine-style rifles
Three pistols
Five sound suppressors
Three pill presses
The following items were also seized and turned over to the BC Civil Forfeiture Office:
Over $200,000
70 silver bars
Five vehicles
Four luxury watches
23 mobile phones
“These types of investigations are extremely complex and officers spend countless hours on advancing these major crime investigations,” said Inspector Michael Cohee, officer-in-charge of Investigative Services.
In a release the Richmond RCMP explain that clandestine labs are dangerous due to the “volatile and explosive” ingredients and processes involved in creating the drugs which can create fire hazards, toxic waste materials and even contaminate the environment.
