Speed and alcohol believed to be factors in fatal overnight crash on BC highway

Police say a crash between a motorcycle and SUV on a Fraser Valley highway early this morning was fatal.

Emergency crews responded to the serious overnight collision on Hwy 11 near Townshipline Road, between Abbotsford and Mission, around 1:30 am.

First responders arrived to find a “heavily damaged” Kawasaki motorcycle,” an Abbotsford Police (APD) statement explained, as well as a Jeep Compass.

Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

According to the APD, the Jeep driver received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

“Preliminary findings suggest that speed and alcohol are contributing factors in the collision,” noted an APD release.

The investigation remains in its early stages and is being supported by the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

The northbound lanes of Hwy 11 remain closed this morning between Old Clayburn Road and Harris Road, but are expected to reopen soon.

The APD is asking anyone who witnessed the fatal crash, or anyone with relevant dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to contact police at 604-859-5225.
