Stanley travel mugs recalled due to 'burn hazard'

A massive recall has been issued for Stanley-branded travel mugs in Canada and the US.

On Thursday, Health Canada said people who bought the affected mugs should “immediately stop” using them due to a risk of being burned.

“The threads on affected lids of the travel mug can shrink when exposed to heat and torque which can cause the lids to unexpectedly detach from the mug during use, posing a risk of burn injury to consumers,” the recall said.

As of Dec.12, there have been three reported incidents and one injury in Canada and 16 incidents in the US with two burn reports.

Anyone who bought one of the affected mugs is being directed to contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid by calling 1- 866-792-5445, from 8 am to 5 pm ET, Monday through Friday.

Alternatively, the company can be contacted online at Stanley1913TMrecall.expertinquiry.com or visit www.stanley1913.com.

This list of affected products includes the following:

  • The Quadvac™ Trigger Action Mug in 16 and 20 oz sizes.

  • The Switchback™ Travel Mug in 12 and 16 oz sizes.

  • The Trigger-Action Travel Mug in 12, 16 and 20 oz sizes.

  • The Trigger-Action Travel Mug 2 Pack in 16 and 20 oz sizes.

The recall said that 184,170 units were sold in Canada and 2.6 million were sold in the US.

The affected products were sold between May 2016 and December 2024.
