Toddler dies after being struck by vehicle in Chilliwack

Police are at the scene of a tragic incident that unfolded in Chilliwack this morning.

Mounties say they were called to the intersection of Vedder and Petewawa roads around 10 am for reports of a vehicle hitting a three-year-old pedestrian.

Emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance when they arrived at the scene, but the toddler succumbed to their injuries.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time,” said Insp. Harinder Kheleh. “This is a heartbreaking incident that affects the entire community.”

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, which includes members of the Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Service.

No further details will be released at this time, the RCMP noted, out of respect for the family’s privacy.

The RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed the fatal collision to contact the Chilliwack detachment by calling 604-792-4611.
