An annual fishing tournament hosted by a resort in Tofino has been cancelled due to “highly inappropriate behaviour.”
The Tofino Resort and Marina, which is co-owned by former NHL defenceman Willie Mitchell, addressed an unknown incident in a statement on their website.
“We were extremely upset to hear about highly inappropriate behaviour connected to one of our annual events,” the resort said.
“Our first concern is for our staff, and we are responding to the needs of those affected.”
The event in question is the Race for the Blue tournament.
The nature of the incident is not known at this time, however the resort said they have brought in an interim manager and an independent counsellor to “ensure the absolute safety and wellbeing” of the team.
The RCMP told NowMedia that they cannot confirm or deny whether they are investigating.
"Only when someone is charged that we can then confirmed our involvement," said an RCMP spokesperson.
