Trip home to see family in Fiji top of mind for BC immigrant after $1M lotto win

It looks like a long-awaited trip back to his homeland is finally in the cards for Koshik Chand.

Chand, who came to British Columbia in 2009 to develop his career, is the province’s newest millionaire after winning the $1-million guaranteed prize from the July 10 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“I never thought that I would win, but I’ve always wanted to go on vacation back to Fiji to see my family,” he said.

The Delta man bought the ticket at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Surrey and was at a convenience store when he decided to scan his ticket.

“I was going inside to buy my lottery tickets for the week and remembered I had a ticket so I scanned it and it said $1,000,000,” explained Chand.

“I first thought it was an error, I couldn’t believe it.”

It was no error, however, which means Chand can start planning his trip back home to Fiji to visit his family.

Apart from that, he’s also eyeing a new home for his family on this side of the pond, as well as a donation to charity.
