The annual rankings are out and the University of British Columbia is once again highly regarded when it comes to the world’s top academic schools.
UBC came 38th on the list, released by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, an independent organization “dedicated to researching higher education intelligence and consultation.”

Not only is the university’s world ranking impressive, but it’s once again the second highest-ranked post-secondary school in Canada behind the University of Toronto.
Schools are ranked by a number of factors, including quality of education, quality of faculty, research output and per capita performance.
It’s all combined into a total score out of 100, which only Harvard University achieved.
More than 1,800 universities are ranked each year and the top 1,000 are published.
Worldwide, the top five behind Harvard included Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley.
In Canada, behind U of T and UBC, McGill University, McMaster University and the University of Alberta rounded out the top five.
